Biography

Dr Anstey is a specialist Emergency and Intensive Care physician and currently works as an intensivist and co-director of research at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Dr Anstey has a Masters of Public Health in health policy from Harvard School of Public Health and he was the 2012-13 Australian Harkness Fellow in Health Policy based at Kaiser Permanente California. He is an advisory board member of Choosing Wisely Australia.

Biography

Michele C Balas joined The Ohio State University College of Nursing in June, 2013. Prior, she held an appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a former John A. Hartford Foundation Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Predoctoral Scholar and Post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Balas’ research career focuses on developing and testing interventions aimed at improving the cognitive, functional, and quality of life outcomes of critically ill older adults. She has extensive experience forming, leading and working with interprofessional teams in both clinical practice and practice-based research and recently co-led a study supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative.

Biography

A/Prof Ian Seppelt is a senior specialist in Intensive Care Medicine at Nepean Hospital, Sydney and the University of Sydney Medical School, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Macquarie University. He is an active clinical researcher and teacher in intensive care medicine and is Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the George Institute for Global Health, Sydney. Research interests include critical care infection (including gut microbiology in critical illness), fluid resuscitation, and sedation and delirium in intensive care. He is the Australian lead for the multinational SuDDICU program (developing the 'definitive' trial of Selective Decontamination of the Digestive Tract in Intensive Care). Other interests include neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care, and the ethics of clinical research in critical illness. He is senior horse transport technician and deputy assistant groom for his children and also part owner of a very nice vineyard near Orange in central New South Wales.
