How to handle End-of-Life Care (EOLC) competently and compassionately is a core part of ICU management. Two of the authors of the ANZICS Statement on Care and Decision-Making at the End of Life for the Critically Ill, A/Prof Bill Silvester (Chair of the ANZICS EOLC Committee and A/Prof Charlie Corke (CICM President), will lead a workshop on the ethics, law, communication skills and controversies of EOLC in the ICU. At the end of this popular interactive workshop you will be more familiar with why and how of EOL decision-making and will have practised the communication skills

Biography

Associate Professor Bill Silvester, as an intensive care specialist, chairs the ANZICS Death and Organ Donation Committee and the End-of-Life Working Group. He is a medical consultant for DonateLife Victoria and represents ANZICS on the Organ & Tissue Authority Family Donation Conversation Steering Committee. He was the founder and Director of the advance care planning program, Respecting Patient Choices, from 2002 until the end of 2015 and is the Immediate Past President of the International Society of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care.
