This workshop will provide participants with an overview of the use of echocardiography in the Intensive Care Unit.
Items to be covered include:
• Knobology
• Transducer movements
• The four standard echocardiography views
• Parasternal - Short axis, long axis
• Apical views - 4 and 5 chamber, 2 chamber and long axis
• Subcostal - Standard views and IVC
Participants will learn to assess left and right ventricular function, basic valve assessment and pericardial effusions.
There will be two 90 minute sessions which will consist of some initial group teaching and then breaking up into smaller groups with one facilitator per group to allow hands on scanning of volunteer models.
