Dr Schlapbach is Associate Professor at the University of Queensland and staff specialist in the PICU at Lady Cilento Children`s Hospital in Brisbane. He is the theme leader Infection/Inflammation at the Paediatric Critical Care Research Group (PCCRG), Mater Research Institute. His research is focussing on severe infections in critically ill patients, including epidemiology, genomics and interventional research, and has been leading several studies of the ANZPIC registry. He is involved in several national and international trials, and has received funding from NHMRC, SNF, and H2020 for studies on severe respiratory and invasive infections in children.
